She spends in a week what you make in a year

{Marie Douglas-David, soon-to-be-ex-hubby George David, and actress Julie Delpy at The 10th Anniversary of Green Cross International and Global Green Founded by Mikhail Gorbachev. MGDavidJDelpy_101104, originally uploaded by Global Green USA.}

Currently duking it out in Hartford Superior Court and on the front pages of the Hartford Courant are the Davids, one of America's uber-rich couples, he the former CEO of United Technologies, she a countess and former Wall Street type who apparently spends more in a week than what some people make in a year.

Click here to see what she spends it on. No really. Click.

I have a hard time wrapping my head around those types of numbers as weekly discretionary expenses. I know that there are people out there who are far more wealthy than 99.9% of the rest of us, and I know that in a divorce there is a little fudging of numbers going on, I just wonder if I was ever that rich would my lifestyle escalate to one where I spent that kind of money on clothes, hair, facials, flowers etc., every week. Every. Week. Oh, sure, in the beginning there would definitely be a shopping spree and lots of travel, but I don't think I could keep it up. There've been too many instances in my life (as a newlywed, as a new divorcee, etc.) where I had to be super-frugal, and even get a second job, just to make ends meet. I'm not saying I would maintain my current lifestyle 100%. I just don't think I could spend four grand a month on my hair.

What about you? Would you be all Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous?

I am flummoxed by the $650 in drycleaning per week. How does one physically wear enough clothes in one week to rack up all that drycleaning?

I'm thinking there's a lot of leather, suede, and sequins, which are always "extra". But still. $650?

Yeah. I think I would be morally opposed to spending that kind of money on superficial things. I'm with you - I would go on a spree, travel, get my hair done, but I don't think I could keep it up.

I love that she only spends $30 a week on reading material. Dude, I could blow that out of the water on shelter mags alone.

She's obviously a deep person.

I'm afraid I would go all Robin Leach if given that kind of money, but my husband would be appalled and rein me in.

Why does this not surprise me? I'm sure the people who work so hard for him understand the fruits of their labor is going for a good cause.

I hope she cleans him out.

No matter how much I earn in my life, I will always be thrifty... it's who I am and where I have come from.... and I love it.... I love the challenge! Why spend just for the sake of it? It's offensive.... and life can turn on a dime in a heartbeat and it can all be taken away. Been there, done that. One must always save for a rainy day and have a plan B! A-M xx

I'm with you, some travel, some shopping. Definately money for my kids education. Get my mom in a decent assisted living place. Then I think I'd want to do something that would do some good in the world. I've had random thougths of setting up an assisted living residence on the North Shore of Oahu with hospice facilities. Can you imaging living your last days/weeks/months looking a tthe ocean everyday in warm balmy weather?

I think it would be hard to find stuff to spend that much on every week. How many times can you go shopping? How many $1600 Roberto Cavalli skirts can one person buy in a week or a month?

WOW. UBER scandal!!! Thanks for updating me on that Hartford Gossip. Another George David marriage down the tubes. What a gold digger.

I'm too more shocked by the lowest amount. Sure there's people spending enormously lot on things I don't even use weekly but so little on reading...
Kinda shows looks are her only priority.

No problem - I could spend that cash in a heart beat! If anyone is willing to donate, just let me know and I'll prove it. I'm actually quite surprised by the "Dining & Entertainment" budget of only $1,500. Obviously they're not eating at Mortons!

She must be a fairly messy person to average $650 a week on dry cleaning. I think I would get tired of just changing outfits!

Thank you so much for your sweet comment. I was able to sleep last night :)

UGH... I left a perfect comment and it was LOST... ugh! WOW... that is a lot to spend in ONE WEEK... I'm with Marie Louise... I'd like to try it!

I'd like to think that I'd make donating a first priority and then.... and then I'd make getting hair and body/spa treatments next on the list. I could go for a blow out every few days since my hair is so super curly and I like it straight...and to be honest...I'd love to be able to spend $1000.00 a week like she does on gifts...I'd love to log onto Etsy every Monday buy handmade items for friends and as donations....

The reading thing blows me away! I'd spend more than $30.00 for sure!

I'm sure I could find ways to spend that kind of money, but I'm also pretty sure I'll never get to find out. Merry Christmas!

WHOA - that is insane! I don't think I could keep up!

If I were wealthy, I'd love to upgrade our family's homes, and do some traveling, but mostly, I'd love to be a philanthropist. There are so many worthy causes that could make excellent use of this woman's dry cleaning budget.

I loved your Christmas tour -- for some reason blogger wouldn't let me leave a comment last week to tell you so.

Hm. I think I could keep it up, fairly well. I mean, without having a job, you have TONS of time to blow cash! heh, I hope you don't mind if I link you?

Raised one of seven, my mother did an excellent job of teaching us how to excel at "frugality" and I do try daily to practice that and to realize the need's of others less fortunate. Most people who spend money like water, were never properly taught to budget.
I would love to have one day of that budget and see how much could be used to help feed, clothe and educate not one but several.

Hi Robin, Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness. We're still keeping our fingers crossed that everything will come out fine. I hope you had a Merry Christmas! :)

Happy new year!

I'm with knitseashore. I'd love to give more to hard working charities and organizations. When I donate, I always wish I could go hogwild and give some insane amount that would let them sigh a sigh of relief and gratitude.

I could spend that much a week, easy, although I'd switch the amounts for reading and hair.

Does that hair look like is it worth $4K? I think not.

Wow - pretty stunning, and I am sure she is being condemned given that the current climate is to scorn the rich rather than covet their lifestyle!

Do you know how old she is? She looks good, but it may be a result of spending $4500 a week on clothes and $1000 a week on haircare (not to mention all of those facials and skin treatments)!

She spends alot of money for not even looking good, no wonder he was messing around.
