April, Enchanting

411px-Enchantedapril

This time of year I always want to pack it all up and rent a villa in Italy. As I have neither the time nor the means, I try to fill the void with a semi-annual viewing of Enchanted April. In 1920s London, four women –- strangers to each other -– pool their resources and rent San Salvatore, a beautiful castle on the side of a wisteria-draped hill on an Italian lake. As each reflects on the things at home that they think are making them unhappy, they fall under the spell of their enchanting surroundings and come to terms with their lives and loves. If you have not seen this little gem of a movie, put in on your Netflix queue right now.

And if anyone wants to go in on a villa with me, leave a note in the comments…

I haven't seen that movie in ages.

I love anything in that Merchant Ivory vein.

P.S. I would so go in on a castle-share with you!

oh! I had NOT heard of this movie! It sounds like it's right up my alley. Have you seen A Good Woman with Scarlet Johansson and Helen Hunt? Yet another villa-centered movie. Beautifully done.

A college friend (from CT) wants to go in on a villa-ish thing for when we're elderly. And have young-ish men as caregivers.
Anyway, the movie seems divine and I'm in for anything villa-esque.

Movie, why wait 'til you're elderly? Let's go NOW!

Another good villa movie is A Month At The Lake with Vanessa Redgrave, reminds me of Summertime (Katherine Hepburn film, 1950s). Also Up At The Villa with Kristin Scott Thomas, based on the Somerset Maugham novel.

You know I'm up for an Italian villa anytime. I'm thinking the Amalfi coast, Sorrento maybe? Look - I've already been eyeing this place!
