Teach your children well

Another example of how the Europeans get it right and we don’t. If you teach children to appreciate good food and nutrition, they grow up to be adults who appreciate good food and nutrition.

Jamie Oliver (the Naked Chef) managed to get the British schools to change their school food policy and is trying to get American schools to do the same. It is sad that someone from another country has to rescue us from our chicken-finger-eating ways. More here.

Oh isn't he brilliant. Love Jamie. I was appalled to learn that some parents had never cooked in their lives! What? Poor kids couldn't even identify vegetables. Child abuse I say. Poor little darlings. A-M xx

Hey Robin! I find this whole topic really interesting. The food I see served in the schools where I work....

Thought about you last night. A friend of mine was the event planner for the big fundraiser at the Honolulu Zoo and she pulled in a bunch of us old timers to help. I hadn't waited a banquet in 12 years, but it all came back...

I remember watching that on PBS or something a while back, fantastic idea. I hope he brings it over here soon.

I really enjoyed this video! I was thinking about getting some fast food for dinner - but this changed my mind.

Why eat crap when there is so much beautiful local food around?

It's SOOO true! But you would be surprised at just how much healthier lots of Americans are compared to other parts of the world (ie., where i currently live in chile... where food and nutrition essentially = ick!!!)

My computer isn't playing the video, but I wonder if it is the segment I saw once where he was shocked that after showing kids what's in chicken nuggets and seeing how they all howled "gross! disgusting! ewwww!" that they still wanted to eat them once they were done. It's a real testament to our culture. Even children have the "I know it's bad for me, but I'm doing it anyway" attitude. And food is just a part of it. If we as adults can't get it over here, then how will the kids?
